London Fire Brigade officials promote fireworks safety

LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) – As many people plan to celebrate Independence Day with family, friends and fireworks, City of London fire officials want to make sure you do. done safely.

The safest way to enjoy the Fourth of July fireworks is to attend a community-organized fireworks show. However, if you still plan to use commercial fireworks, the National Safety Council shares some safety tips:

  • Never allow young children to handle fireworks and older children should only use them under close adult supervision.
  • Never use fireworks if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Anyone using or standing near fireworks must wear protective eyewear
  • Never hold lit fireworks in your hands
  • Never light them indoors
  • Use only away from people, homes and flammable materials.
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person
  • Only turn on one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after switching on
  • Never light appliances in a container
  • Do not attempt to relight or handle defective fireworks.
  • Soak used, unused fireworks in water for a few hours before disposing of them
  • Keep a bucket of water nearby to completely extinguish fireworks that don't start or in the event of a fire
  • Never use illegal fireworks
