Logan County deputies investigate murder-suicide allegations

LOGAN COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) – Deputies are investigating a murder-suicide in Logan County Monday morning.

“We haven’t seen anything like this. This is a first and I hope it will be the last,” said John Hamilton, who lives in the area.

Hamilton was on his back deck around 8:30 a.m. when he heard gunshots.

“Just blame, blame, blame. It sounded like three or four gunshots,” Hamilton said. “Quite unusual for a Monday morning to hear that sort of thing.”

Soon, emergency vehicles and investigators flooded Wildwood Road, near S. Coltrane Road and W Simmons Road.

According to Logan County Sheriff Damon Devereaux, a woman was picking up her co-worker from work and was followed by her husband.

“(He) parked behind her vehicle so she couldn’t get out,” Devereaux said. “I went out and shot and killed the driver, who was his wife. Then he walked over to the passenger side. The woman was able to get out of the vehicle.

Authorities say the co-worker fled to safety. Then the husband turned the gun on himself.

A neighbor called 911, according to Devereaux.

“All I have to say is it’s crazy,” Hamilton said.

The sheriff told KFOR the couple involved had a history of problems.

“We went here on domestics for people who were involved before,” Devereaux said. “There’s sort of a pattern of domestic violence. I believe he was recently arrested in the last few months for domestic strangulation.

Their identities will be revealed once their families have been informed.
