Logan Agri-Service Inc. of Missouri fined by EPA | Mid-Missouri News

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has imposed a $74,806 civil penalty on Logan Agri-Service Inc., an Illinois-based pesticide dealer with a branch in Paris, Missouri, for allegedly repackaged pesticide products, according to a press release.

According to the EPA, product repackaging violates the federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, which requires pesticide manufacturers, distributors, and applicators to comply with specific regulations regarding registration, labeling, packaging and application.

Employees at Logan Agri-Service's Paris branch repackaged pesticides from bulk containers into customer-supplied containers without going through proper channels and agreements, the EPA said. The company also reportedly failed to register with the EPA to produce pesticides in its Paris branch.

Jodi Bruno, acting director of the EPA Region 7 Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Division, said registering pesticide products with the EPA helps ensure that products will not harm people or the environment.

“Proper pesticide labeling is essential to protecting public health so that consumers know a product's ingredients, how the product can be used safely, and how the product should be properly stored and disposed of,” said Bruno in the press release.
