Local Vicksburg teens have decided not to spend their summer in bed or at the beach. Instead, Fabian Moore, Corderrion Valentine, Devin Banks and Felton Moore joined the workforce where they all went looking for jobs at Burger King in Clinton, Mississippi.

One day, Valentine's mother, Shakayla Dixon, who is a manager at Burger King, asked her son if he wanted to come work with her. He reluctantly accepted the task, but Corderrion also had the idea to bring his friends/basketball teammates so they could all earn some extra money.

“We wanted money for ourselves so we didn't have to always ask our parents for it,” Valentine said. “I felt like it would be fun to work with my friends and not have to ask my mom and dad for everything,” Banks, 15, added.

These teenagers work approximately six hours a day and 4 to 5 days a week and learn early on that nothing is free in this world.

“I plan to buy new shoes and everything I need because I understand how important it is to have your own,” said 15-year-old Fabian. “I'm going to use my money to buy school clothes and save for college,” Felton, 17, added.

With a lot of violence involving young people, these guys decided it was more important to make money rather than cause havoc in the community.

“We could be here shooting and being violent, but we choose to work,” Corderrion preached. I hope this will motivate young people around the world to stay out of trouble.

These teens received a lot of attention when Dixon posted her Facebook post, which received over 5,000 shares and 10,000 likes.

Shortly after, comedian and television host Nick Cannon shared the children's story on Instagram, which received nearly 100,000 likes.

With all the negative news going around, it's exciting to see young people choosing the right path and improving their future. All four teens are also basketball players at Vicksburg High School.
