Local Lego-savvy teen finds niche at Prairie Bricks – InForum

MOORHEAD — Gavin Wolf's bedroom is like a walk through a Lego factory.

“The Death Star? That was the first big set I ever had. It's kind of like a dollhouse in Lego Star Wars terms,” Gavin said. “I want to collect them all.”

From Star Wars to Marvel, he's been assembling Legos since he was 8 years old. He can spend hours on a piece.

“It tells you here that it came out in 2021 with 6,785 pieces. I would say (it took) about 17 hours. This Millennium Falcon took a total of 18 hours to make,” Gavin said.

Gavin, who is autistic, just graduated from Moorhead High School. Trying to find a job hasn't always been easy. Then a place called Prairie Bricks met Gavin.

“Zach and I would be more than happy to tell you the story of how Darth Maul came to be, back home,” Gavin said of his boss at Prairie Bricks.

“It’s definitely wise to acquire them before they retire because they can skyrocket,” Gavin said.

Gavin is now one of the most popular and respected employees at Prairie Bricks, part of the EasTen complex in Moorhead.

“It’s the professional wall, you can choose whatever pieces you want to do, however you want,” Gavin said.

Don't worry, if you have a Lego question, he'll know the answer. For his family, it's a sense of pride that their high school graduate has found something so rewarding, as well as a sense of independence for him.

“It's his world. It's amazing. He'll see a mini-figure and he'll know what year it's from, and because of a certain feature on the mini-figure, what series it's from and is it a retiree, “he's just a mini-figure,” said Aaron Wolf, Gavin's father.

“He's really found his niche. I mean, it's such a blessing that this opportunity has come to us and so we couldn't be more grateful for it,” said Janine Wolf, Gavin's mother.

To Gavin, it doesn't even feel like work, and he's always thinking about the next Lego project he can take on.

“This (Ghostbusters) would be a nice addition to the collection since I already have the DeLorean,” Gavin said.
