Local Adolescent Scoliosis Awareness Symposium

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) — A local teen is taking it upon himself to educate the community about scoliosis and its effects on children when it is diagnosed.

OlaRose Ndubiusi made a name for herself — including here at News 8 — for her unwavering spirit and unique sense of expression after being diagnosed with severe scoliosis. Now she’s taking her message of hope and healing even further.

Throughout her diagnosis, her daily plan, and even a failed surgery, nothing could hold OlaRose back. Now she hopes to share how she did it with others like her.

On Saturday, OlaRose will host the Finding Scoliosis Kindly Educational Symposium, a free event focused on its scoliosis awareness project, including access to screenings, and teaching art and music as creative ways to fight against pain.

“I want to be able to help other kids with scoliosis and give them the same creative resources and outlets that I had to express themselves, as well as educate the public about scoliosis,” OlaRose said. “This way, children can receive the compassion and support they need to effectively manage their illness. »

The symposium will bring together doctors for health checks, a physiotherapist and a yoga teacher to lead workshops, and OlaRose herself guiding participants through various artistic expressions.

The symposium will take place Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Henrietta Public Library. Participation and workshops are free. Mayor Evans will deliver the keynote address and News 8's Mikhaela Singleton will host the symposium!
