LMPD says seventh victim injured in PRP shooting

This update comes as LMPD addresses a violent weekend in the city, during which three people were killed and more than a dozen shot in separate incidents.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An 18-year-old shooting victim arrived at UofL-Mary & Elizabeth Hospital Monday, according to LMPD, with injuries from Sunday morning.

The shooting happened when a graduation party spilled out of an event venue, Prestige by Luxe, at a Pleasure Ridge Park shopping center. The shots came from the crowd.

When LMPD arrived at the Raggard Road shopping center, they found six people – five children and one adult – suffering from gunshot wounds. The shooting happened around 1 a.m. Sunday.

Police expect the victims to survive their injuries after being treated at hospital.

It follows a cycle of violence that LMPD homicide lieutenant Les Skaggs knows well. “The past few years have been marked by constant violence, retaliation and resentment,” he said.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the event venue said: “We have hosted hundreds of baby showers, weddings and special events, where we have never experienced such tragedy.” They also pledged to cooperate with the LMPD investigation.

The department's crime map data shows some assaults occurred in surrounding neighborhoods over the past year, but indicates no other violent crimes in the mall where the business is located.

Following that shooting and others over the weekend, Mayor Craig Greenberg called on the state to give the Metro Council more legislative control.

“We need more tools so that locally we can do what it takes to get these illegal guns off the street and prevent people who own these illegal guns from using them for the wrong reasons,” said the mayor.

However, the mayor did not specify what tools the city needs. Previously, he had advocated for dismantling weapons used in violent crimes and for more regulations on businesses where violence occurs.

The comments come after a violent weekend in Louisville in which 17 people were shot, three of whom were killed.

“This has been a very difficult time in our career in the homicide unit,” Lt. Skaggs said. “They work tirelessly for long hours. Obviously when we have a weekend like this, it takes every resource we have. Many of these detectives work multiple cases and multiple scenes throughout the weekend -end. So it costs us all.”

The LMPD Non-Fatal Shooting Team is investigating the parking lot shooting. A ministry spokesperson said they “are not yet prepared to publicly disclose any suspect theories or information.”

Their anonymous tip line is 574-LMPD.
