'Live911' Technology Facilitates Rapid Response to Rochester Hills Mass Shooting

ROCHESTER HILLS, Michigan. – There was a quick response to reports of several people shot at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad on Saturday in Oakland County.

An Oakland County Sheriff's deputy arrived on scene within minutes of the call.

“Fortunately, because we had incorporated newer technology called Live911, one of our sergeants at Rochester Hills The substation heard the 911 call before going through dispatch and immediately self-deploying,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

According to HigherGround, the company behind Live911, the technology came to market in 2020 and more than 130 law enforcement agencies nationwide are using it.

When a 911 call comes in, Live911 simultaneously sends it to first responders.

Services using this technology no longer need to wait for the service call to be sent over the radio.

Rapid response is even more crucial in an active shooter situation like the June 15 Rochester Hills incident.

“Seconds count when people are in a life or death situation. That’s why we integrated Live911 into our operations,” Bouchard said.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department started using Live911 about a year and a half ago.
