Hathras Stampede Live: Outside Hathras Hospital, bodies of stampede victims lie on the ground, shrill screams echo through the air

Bodies lay strewn across a medical centre in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district on Tuesday as people crowded around them, wiping tears and consoling one another.

The harrowing scenes unfolded outside the Sikandara Rao trauma centre, where dead and unconscious victims of the stampede during a satsang in Phulrai village were being brought in ambulances, trucks and cars.

A woman was crying amid five or six bodies in a truck, asking people to help her get her daughter's body out of the vehicle. Video shows a man and a woman lying lifeless in another vehicle.

Many of the injured were seen lying near the entrance of the local government hospital, surrounded by worried relatives. Residents blamed the tragedy on administrative negligence.

As the hours passed, the official death toll rose and the crowd outside the trauma center and morgue grew.

According to a senior district official, between 50 and 60 people, mostly women, were killed in the stampede and several others injured.
