Little Twist Fire remains 25% contained and 2,550 acres

CASTOR, Utah (ABC4) — The Little Twist Fire southeast of Beaver is still raging, but according to an update from officials Saturday, the fire was still estimated at about 2,550 acres and was 25% contained.

The fire remained at 2,550 acres as of Friday, and the blaze was estimated to be 25 percent contained Friday and Saturday, authorities said. Nearly 300 personnel were working to fight the fire Saturday.

“Firefighters continue to work on all perimeters, maintaining and constructing support lines to limit fire movement and supporting burn operations to increase overall containment,” Utah Fire Info said in a statement. Press release.

Officials said firefighters would use a “helicopter torch” for “aerial ignitions” that would help clear vegetation and other combustibles on the north side of the fire. The ignitions should help create an additional fire line, Utah Fire Info said.

“Today’s efforts are intended to connect the existing line and remove these fuels to provide the greatest opportunity for removal success,” officials said in the release.

The weekend weather conditions are expected to be hot and dry, with high temperatures in the upper 80s, Utah Fire Info said. The area closure order was still in effect Saturday for the safety of firefighters and the public, but some recreational locations were still open.

“Little Reservoir, Tushar Lakeside and Kents Lake campgrounds remain open to the public for camping and daytime recreational activities,” officials said.

Smoke is expected to continue to be visible in the coming weeks in surrounding areas, including I-15 and I-70, as well as Interstate 89 and Interstate 20.
