Little Mountain Fire burns 20 acres near Cal State San Bernardino

High Desert residents returning home on Interstate 215 this weekend reported a fire south of California State University, San Bernardino.

San Bernardino County firefighters reported a vegetation fire at 12:30 a.m. Sunday near Little Mountain Drive and West Edgehill. Callers to 911 reported the fire at the base of Little Mountain, near the I-215 and I-210 interchange.

Victorville resident Steven Quinn, 47, was heading home with his family on I-215 from Riverside when they saw heavy smoke in the distance.

“At first we thought it was a car fire, but as we got closer we realized the mountain was on fire,” Quinn told the Daily Press.

Sharon Rodriquez, of Hesperia, who also traveled on I-215, said she saw firefighters responding to the blaze near the Shandin Hills Golf Course.
