Lincoln teen seriously injured in drunken hit-and-run

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man was arrested Saturday evening after being charged with hit-and-run and drunk driving.

The Lincoln Police Department responded to a call around 10:30 p.m. regarding reports of a late-night hit-and-run near South and 1st streets.

Police said a 19-year-old man was riding a small motorcycle when he was struck by a Ford Ranger pickup truck.

The victim suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Bryan West Hospital.

Daren Gillespie, 49, left the scene and was found 45 minutes later at his residence near 48th Street and Old Cheney Road, according to LPD.

Police said Gillespie admitted to hitting something while driving and leaving the scene.

LPD arrested Gillespie and he was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an injury accident.

Gillespie was booked into the Lancaster County Jail.
