LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man will go to prison for 15 years after he was arrested with a large amount of drugs at a Lincoln motel.

Dylan Johnson, 26, of Lincoln, was sentenced Wednesday in federal court for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

On May 1, 2023, officers were monitoring the Super 8 near Southwest 27th and West O streets, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

They saw Johnson drop off several bags of drugs in the parking lot, the U.S. attorney's office said.

Investigators arrested him and searched his motel room, where they found methamphetamine, cocaine, baggies, a scale and a heat sealer.

They also found an AR-15 rifle and 21 rounds of ammunition, authorities said.

Johnson was a felon, so he was prohibited from possessing firearms.

But he told police he bought the rifle for protection during drug deals, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

In total, Johnson had 388 grams of methamphetamine and 4 grams of cocaine, authorities said. Of the methamphetamines, 370 grams were pure.

After prison, Johnson will spend five years on supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
