'Like I'm in a Tornado': Armie Hammer Now Opens Up About Alleged Cannibalism and Why He's 'Thankful' for the Controversy

It looks like 2024 is the year we'll get answers after persistent rumors that Armie Hammer was engaging in cannibalism. After an ex of the actor explained the bizarre situation in more detail in January, we now have some words from Hammer himself about the whole fiasco. He appeared on a podcast and, in a surprising turn of events, explained in hindsight why he felt grateful for the drama.

A year after he was cleared of sexual assault charges and after reading posts online detailing the actor's cannibalism and BDSM fetish fantasies, Armie Hammer spoke to Painful Lessons about the whole experience. Hammer talked about what it was like to be at the center of it all, abandoning the films he was a part of and dealing with the idea that people thought he was a cannibal. The actor explained everything by saying

When this really started for me, I felt like I was in a tornado. I felt like the only thing I could do was cover my head and protect my neck, even though I had an instinct to lash out. Even though I wanted to go there and say, “This is crazy!” What is everyone talking about?!' There were things people said about me that seemed so weird… That I was a cannibal. Now I'm kind of able to look at it with a sense of distance and perspective and say to myself, “This is hilarious.” People called me a cannibal and everyone believed them. They say, “Yes, this guy ate people. And you're just like, “What?!” Like, what are you talking about? Do you know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people. …It was weird.

Hammer's ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers, who left the actor when the sexual assault accusations against him first surfaced, also said the end of their marriage was absolute hell. As such, it's not hard to believe that the actor views this as such a bizarre time, especially without the threat of legal repercussions hanging over him.

On the other hand, Armie Hammer has apparently found happiness in 2024. This may seem like a confusing statement considering he lost his job in films like The next goal wins as a result, but the actor explained why he feels this way now, saying

No matter what people have said, no matter what has happened, I am now at a place in my life where I am grateful for every moment of my life. In fact, I'm at a point now where I'm really grateful for it, because where I was in my life before all this happened to me, I didn't feel good. I never felt satisfied. I never had enough. I was never in a place where I was happy with myself, where I had self-esteem. I never knew how to give myself love. I never knew how to validate myself. But I had this job where I was able to get it from so many people that I never had to learn how to give it to myself.

Armie Hammer has clearly found a way to heal following his controversy, but the real question arises as to whether he will return to Hollywood with these problems behind him. As of this writing, the actor has no major films in the works, and the actor later said in the podcast that his career is “nowhere now,” and hinted that he was not welcome in the Hollywood circles where he had once been offered gigs.

Even though the chances of Armie Hammer ever coming back for a UNCLE man the sequel seems weak, he is apparently writing a screenplay with a friend. He could eventually make a comeback, but even if he doesn't, it appears the actor has found peace in addressing his various addictions and other issues since all the controversy surrounding him began.

Ultimately, the actor committed to a 12-step program in an effort to combat whatever he was facing, and based on his statements during the recent interview, it appears he has make some progress. It's unclear if progress will ever be enough to resurrect his career in Hollywood, but we're in uncharted territory here. I imagine not many celebrities have been accused of cannibalism during their lifetime.
