Lightning Sparks Wildfire West of Willow Along Susitna River – Alaska Wildfire Information

Updated 9:15 p.m. – Soldotna Helitack responded as firefighters shuttled to the fire. The Denali suppression pod, a crew sponsored by the Chugachmiut Tribal Consortium and crew members from both helicopters will be transported to the fire. The Mat-Su helicopter has dropped several buckets of water during a fuel cycle and is returning to Willow Airport to refuel. They report that the fire is now smoldering and has grown to an estimated area of ​​1 acre.

Updated 8:00 p.m. – Firefighters with the Division of Forestry and Fire Protection are responding to a lightning-ignited fire along the Susitna River west of Willow. The Susitna Fire (#235) is actively burning in the black spruce west of Willow Creek Parkway. Helitack responded and drops buckets of water. An additional helicopter was requested to transport firefighters to the scene.
