Library, teen center and Arts Council to host pop art workshops with collage artist Michael Albert – Los Alamos Reporter

COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

The Los Alamos Public Library, along with the Los Alamos Teen Center and the Los Alamos Arts Council, is proud to co-sponsor three workshops with artist and teacher Michael Albert on Wednesday, June 12. The first workshop, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. , will be designed to guide elementary-aged children in creating Albert's collages at the Mesa Public Library. The second workshop, aimed at teens and sponsored by the Los Alamos Teen Center, will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Mesa Public Library. In the evening, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Albert will lead a third adult workshop hosted at the Fuller Lodge Arts Center and sponsored by the Los Alamos Arts Council.

Michael Albert, a visiting artist and teacher from New York, describes himself as a “cereal artist” where his art constructs colorful collage paintings from cereal boxes and other cardboard packaging. Albert has worked extensively with children of all ages in his workshops and tailors his support for group creativity to the needs and interests of each group. No participant, regardless of age, will be refused the workshops, so families will be able to attend as a group.

These workshops are completely free to attend for all ages thanks to sponsorship from the Los Alamos Public Library, the Los Alamos Teen Center and the Los Alamos Arts Council. All workshop materials and art supplies will be provided to participants.

This workshop series is part of the Los Alamos Public Library's Summer Reading Challenge activities, during which library staff assembled lists of books, activities and events under the theme Read, Renew, repeat ! Participants of all ages can learn more about the reading challenges available to them at LosAlamosLibrary.org or register at lacnm.beanstack.org in preparation for the June 10 launch of summer reading programs.

Details of Michael Albert's workshops at Los Alamos can be found on the events calendar at LosAlamosLibrary.org. For more information on co-sponsors, please visit LosAlamosArtsCouncil.org and laymca.org/los-alamos-teen-center.
