LI man found guilty of fatal shooting of cousin: DA

BRENTWOOD, N.Y. — A Brentwood man was convicted after a jury trial of fatally stabbing his cousin at his workplace and then attempting to kill his cousin's girlfriend, stabbing her nine times in front of her 21-year-old son , Ray, Suffolk County District Attorney. Tierney said.

Wilson Felipe Andrade-Molina, 38, was convicted of second-degree murder, Tierney said.

Evidence at trial established that on March 30, 2023, Andrade-Molina and his cousin, Miguel Andrade-Cando, worked together as machinists at Electronic Machine Parts in Hauppauge, Tierney said.

Around 7:22 a.m., surveillance video captured Andrade-Molina arriving at work shortly before Andrade-Cando; Just minutes after the victim arrived, the defendant fatally stabbed him in the neck, the prosecutor said.

The business owner discovered Andrade-Cando lifeless on the floor in a pool of blood, Tierney said.

Immediately after killing his cousin, Andrade-Molina went directly to Andrade-Cando's home in Brentwood, the house his cousin shared with his girlfriend and her 21-year-old son, the prosecutor said. Once there, Andrade-Molina entered the house and stabbed his cousin's girlfriend about nine times, nearly killing her, TIerney said.

Her son, who was sleeping at the time, woke up to his mother's screams as she was attacked, the prosecutor said.

While the young man tried to help his mother, Andrade-Molina advanced towards him with the knife and threatened him; Andrade-Molina then returned to the woman and continued to stab her before fleeing the scene, the prosecutor said.

The Suffolk County Police Department located Andrade-Molina in Bay Shore a short time later and placed him under arrest, Tierney said.

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries, including a lacerated liver, punctures to her diaphragm and lungs, and lacerations to her arm, shoulder, chest and torso, the prosecutor said.

On Thursday, Andrade-Molina was convicted of second-degree murder, a felony; and attempted second-degree murder, a felony, after a three-week jury trial heard before Supreme Court Justice Timothy Mazzei, Tierney said.

Andrade-Molina is due back in court for sentencing on June 24, 2024, and faces up to 50 years to life in prison, the prosecutor said.

He is represented by Steve Politi. “He didn’t do it,” Politi told Patch. “The jury was wrong. He would never hurt his cousin.”

“While this guilty verdict can never reverse the extreme violence and tragic outcome resulting from this defendant's murderous actions, we hope it brings some peace to the victims and their families,” Tierney said. “I want to thank the Suffolk County Police for their investigation of this case, the jury for their careful attention during the trial, and my prosecutors for securing justice for the victims. Thanks to them, this defendant will be called to account for his acts.
