Lexington mother pleads guilty to fatally stabbing 2 children

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – Lexington mother Nikki James accepted a guilty plea deal Monday morning to two amended counts of second-degree manslaughter after being charged in the death by stabbing of his two children occurred in May 2022. in their apartment on Rogers Road, confirmed the office of Chief Circuit Judge Kim Bunnell.

Bunnell's office reported that James was sentenced to 10 years in prison on each count, for a total of 20 years to be served consecutively.

LEX 18 News previously reported that Detective Joshua Crowe said James told witnesses at the scene that she killed her children.

Additionally, during the preliminary hearing, questions regarding his mental health were addressed, as LEX 18 reported that at the time, James was facing deportation and had previously suffered from mental health issues.

James is scheduled to be formally sentenced June 28, according to Bunnell's office.
