Lewis Blanchard ends campaign for Burke County sheriff

BURKE COUNTY, GA (WJBF) – Lewis Blanchard announced he will no longer continue his campaign for Burke County sheriff in a letter released Wednesday, July 3.

“After much consideration since the last primary election, I am announcing my decision to end my campaign for Burke County Sheriff,” Blanchard said. “The results of the primary election show strong support for the current Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Alfonzo Williams. After reviewing the results and consulting with many of you since then, I have concluded that this is not the time for me to run.”

In the letter sent to the media, Blanchard thanked his supporters for their encouragement and understanding.

“Running for sheriff has been a remarkable experience,” Blanchard said. “It has allowed me to connect with so many incredible people and gain a deeper understanding of the needs and hopes of our community. While my campaign is coming to a close, my commitment to service remains unwavering. I will continue to support efforts that ensure the safety, well-being and progress of our community. While this chapter is ending, I look forward to new opportunities to make a positive contribution.”

According to Blanchard, those who donated to the general election can expect a refund within the next week.
