Leshmarie Marin-Viera found guilty of manslaughter in fatal Springfield stabbing

A jury found a 24-year-old Springfield woman guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Sully Santiago, 23, of Holyoke, who was stabbed multiple times during an “altercation” last year, a Hampden County Prosecutor Anthony Gulluni's office announced.

Leshmarie Marin-Viera is scheduled to be sentenced in Hampden Superior Court on July 2, according to a news release from Gulluni's office.

On Sunday, January 29, 2023, Springfield Police received reports of a disturbance and stabbing at the intersection of Frank B. Murray and Chestnut Streets. When officers arrived, they found a woman, later identified as Santiago, lying in a parking lot with stab wounds. Santiago was taken to Baystate Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.

“Early in the investigation,” police identified Marin-Viera as a suspect and she was arrested the next day, Jan. 30, after she turned herself in.
