LEASE DENIED: Hagerstown men allegedly shoot at car near Chambersburg over dispute over 'their car names'

June 3, 2024 – In what may be one of the strangest stories involving a shooting in Franklin County, two Hagerstown men were denied bail following an apparent stint with a BB gun . Dakota Leif Tyler Jenson was charged with felony conspiracy to commit aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor conspiracy to commit simple assault, misdemeanor conspiracy to commit reckless endangerment and of criminal offense of property damage. Joseph Allen Kershner was charged with the same charges, but without a conspiracy designation. Kershner and Jenson were denied bail by MDJ Kelly Rock, with the reason cited as “threat to society.”

Pennsylvania State Police were dispatched to a case that initially occurred near the intersection of Molly Pitcher Highway and Greenvillage Road around 7:07 p.m. on June 2. During the incident, the victims reportedly told police that the car they were driving had just been shot several times in the rear windshield. The car that committed the shooting, according to Troopers, was a gray Chrysler sedan with the words “The Grouch” on the windshield.

An additional interview was conducted as officers learned that while stopped at a light near Sheetz, another car pulled up to the victim's vehicle, stuck his arm out the window while holding a handgun, then pulled the trigger several times. Believing that people were trying to kill him and that it was a real gun, the victim fled before the alleged attackers left.

That car, police learned, belonged to the victim's girlfriend. Through this, police were able to learn that the victim's girlfriend and Joseph Kershner and Dakota Jenson had an “ongoing dispute over the names of their cars.”

After police searched the vehicle, they found one that matched the description of the Chrysler, stopped it and found Jenson and Kershner inside. After both were questioned, they allegedly admitted to shooting at the vehicle, but with a BB gun. Jenson allegedly provided the metal pellets and a CO2 cartridge, with Kershner taking the photos. A subsequent search warrant was executed on the car, with officers reporting finding a black BB gun under the driver's seat along with a BB container and a CO2 container found in the driver's side rear door.

Dakota Jenson and Joseph Kershner are behind bars without bail.
