Lead by example as the next sheriff | News, Sports, Jobs

Tama County Sheriff Candidate, Detective/Deputy Lucas Dvorak.

Tama County Community,

My name is Lucas Dvorak and I am running to be the next sheriff of Tama County. During this campaign, I learned a lot about myself. One thing is that I am not a politician. A retired colleague told me that I had trouble talking about myself. My response was that I believe my work ethic speaks for itself.

I grew up in Tama County and spent a lot of time working on my uncle's dairy farm when I was young. I quickly learned the meaning of hard work. This work ethic has stayed with me throughout my life.

When I first started working in law enforcement, I saw Sheriff Kucera do his job as “active sheriff” and lead by example. Tama County has been fortunate to have a sheriff like Sheriff Kucera, and I hope to continue that.

I have spent most of my career as a detective working in investigations and have had the opportunity to work with many agencies over the years. This provided me with a great opportunity to develop my leadership skills. I am currently a board member of the Iowa Narcotics Officers Association (INOA). INOA helps provide free training to law enforcement officers across the state and raise funds for injured officers or families of fallen officers in the state of Iowa.

I believe we all need to get involved in our communities, both personally and professionally. My job allows me to be involved in the community as I teach violent critical incident training in our local schools. I also present the dangers of narcotics to local EMS and schools.

When I'm not working, I coach football and wrestling, and have done so for about 7 years. I also serve on the board of directors for the Tama County Fair. By participating in these activities, we help ensure that our children can participate in sports and 4H.

The safety and future of our children is very important to me, which is why, as Sheriff, I would like to obtain a grant to provide a School Resource Officer to the two schools covered by the County Sheriff's Office Tama. I am also currently working on a board to use available funds to create a position in Tama County to assist with mental health and substance abuse, which would provide immediate assistance to those who need it.

I am the candidate who has very openly defended our Constitution, including your Second Amendment right. When you look across the country, it is clear that our Constitution and our Second Amendment rights are under attack. I will do everything in my power to end the excesses of the federal government and protect your rights.

I believe I have demonstrated throughout my career my leadership, dedication and work ethic, both towards my job and towards the community. I have not changed my approach during my campaign because I believe I have demonstrated the qualities necessary to be your next sheriff over the past 15 years.

I really enjoyed meeting and talking with more members of the Tama County community. I am always open to listening and valuing community opinion. I appreciate everyone's support throughout this campaign.

Remember that on June 4, your voice counts, so please exercise your right to vote.

Lucas Dvorak, of rural Gladbrook, is a Republican candidate for Tama County sheriff.
