Lawsuit filed against Rahul Gandhi and PM Modi over alleged defamatory comments against Adani Group

Surjit Singh Yadav, who claims to be a farmer and stock investor, has filed a suit in a Delhi court seeking a permanent injunction against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their statements against the Adani Group and its promoter Gautam Adani.

The suit asked the court to restrain Gandhi and Prime Minister Modi from making false, fabricated and misleading statements falsely accusing the promoter of the Adani group of companies without any basis. According to the plea, such allegations by political leaders are causing unforeseen volatility in the listed shares of the Adani group of companies, resulting in huge losses to the complainant as an investor and to other investors as well.

According to the plea, the petitioner claimed to have come across a news article on news channels and social media in which Rahul Gandhi had made a statement alleging that the Center had waived off loans worth Rs 16 lakh crore for a few industrialists, including Gautam Adani.

“The speech delivered by Rahul Gandhi was grossly misleading and intended to create confusion in the minds of readers/viewers so that the image of the Adani group of companies could be degraded in the eyes of the general public and investors,” the statement said. petition.

The plea alleges that such negative campaign against industrialists causes volatility in the stock market and huge losses to investors. According to the plea, the petitioner discovered that no waiver of the loan was made and hence, such news was false and misleading.

The plea also talks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech in Karim Nagar, Telangana, where certain allegations were made. The plea seeks a court order to prevent political leaders from making unsubstantiated statements.

An Adani Group spokesperson declined to comment on the lawsuit.
