Lava lamp sparks fire at three-family home in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A lava lamp accident caused a bedroom fire in a three-family home on Oakland Street in Springfield on Thursday.

According to the Springfield Fire Department, crews were called to 397 Oakland Street around 3:18 p.m. for a fire in a bedroom on the third floor of a three-family home.


The fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported following the incident. The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad confirmed the fire started when a lava lamp was unintentionally knocked over and broken, igniting nearby combustibles on the ground.

This incident reminds residents to pay attention to the location and stability of decorative and electrical items in their homes to prevent such accidents from occurring.
