Lauderhill parking lot shooting leaves child injured – NBC 6 South Florida

A child was taken to the hospital after police say he was caught in gunfire in the parking lot of a Lauderhill supermarket on Memorial Day.

The shooting stemmed from an altercation in the parking lot at 1531 North SR 7, according to Lauderhill police.

A customer told NBC6 she heard two people fighting for a parking space when someone pulled out a gun and started shooting, hitting the child.

“The blood was coming out of his feet so fast,” Katrina Hamilton said. “He was bleeding very, very heavily.”

Hamilton, a nurse, said she used a gown to control the bleeding. A bullet also went through his car.

“This is coming from him shooting like crazy,” she said. “I guess I’d rather have a bullet hole than a bullet in me, so I thank God.”

Helicopter 6 was overhead as the child was transported to the trauma center at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, appearing alert and relatively calm.

Officers told NBC6 the child was shot in the ankle and his life was in danger. He was released from the hospital late in the afternoon.

Police said three vehicles were involved in the incident and one of the drivers has since returned to the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with information was asked to call the police department at 954-497-4700 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 (TIPS).
