Las Vegas police provide details on two recent officer-involved shootings

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is holding a press conference regarding two officer-involved shootings that occurred this week.

Deputy Sheriff Yasenia Yatomi will discuss additional details about the June 25 and 26 officer-involved shootings.

On Tuesday, a person was shot and killed by police during a gun battle at a home in the 2000 block of Valley Drive, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Rancho Drive.

The suspect involved has been identified as Matthew Tindall, 41.

Police said Tindall broke into a residence while armed with a knife. Two police officers arrived on scene and heard calls for help coming from a nearby residence.

The two officers rushed to the house and saw three people at the front door. Tindall was fighting with another man in the doorway and was holding a knife. After giving Tindall vertical commands, he dropped the knife, but then leaned over and started to grab it.

Officer Miguel Rodriguez fired his weapon, hitting Tindall.

Rodriguez, 31, has worked with the department since 2017 and police said he fired five shots in total.

Tindall is charged with attempted murder with a deadly weapon, attempted murder with a deadly weapon against an elderly person, home invasion with a deadly weapon, home invasion with a deadly weapon against an elderly person, assault and battery with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer with a deadly weapon that was not a firearm.

Wednesday's shooting happened in the area of ​​Boulder Highway and Russell Road. Police shot and killed a man they said was armed with two knives and was threatening customers at a business.

The suspect was identified as Robert Kunhart, 62. Several officers responded to the scene and found Kunhart in the parking lot of the business, holding a knife and appearing agitated.

The officers asked him to drop the knife, but he ignored them and walked toward the store's front doors. As they followed Kunhart, the officers saw that he had two knives, one in each hand.

The police used several less lethal measures to prevent the man from entering the business where several people were present. These measures were not effective and the man continued to walk towards the police.

Kunhart then charged, causing two officers to fire their weapons, hitting the suspect.

The officers involved in the incident have been identified as Sergeant Ashley Ravelo, 32, and Officer Johnny Patino, 32. Ravelo fired one round and Patino fired five rounds.

Kunhart faces charges of attempted murder of a protected person, resisting a public official with a weapon that was not a firearm.
