Las Vegas law firm closes 2 months after lawyer and wife killed in shooting

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The law firm that was the scene of an April shooting that left two people and the shooter dead closed its doors Monday, 8 News Now investigators have learned.

Dennis Prince, 57, was killed alongside his wife, Ashley Prince, 30, during a child custody hearing at Dennis Prince's law office in Summerlin on April 8. Joe Houston II, 77, another attorney, was at the hearing to represent his son, Dylan Houston. , in her custody dispute with Ashley Prince. During the deposition, Joe Houston shot and killed Princes before killing himself.


The Prince Law Group ceased operations on Monday, five years after its founding, says a notice posted on its website.

“With heavy hearts, we are closing the Prince Law Group following the tragic passing of its founder, Dennis M. Prince,” the message read. “We opened Prince Law Group on June 3, 2019, exactly five years ago to the day. Although we hoped to continue Dennis' legacy, we simply could not persevere without him. It has been our pleasure to represent so many deserving clients over the past five years.

The April 8 deposition concerned a years-long custody dispute involving the two young children of Dylan Houston and Ashley Prince.

The Prince Law Group employed several lawyers, including Dennis Prince's son.

“A special thank you to the attorneys and staff at Prince Law Group who made the firm’s success possible,” the message said Monday. “Despite this tragedy, they showed immeasurable courage and resilience. We are eternally grateful for their hard work and dedication in bringing the business to an honorable close. Rest in peace, Denis. Although we will always miss you, your legacy will live on and we will never forget you.

After Dennis Prince's death, Colin Cavanaugh, the firm's attorney, took over all cases, a district court heard. It was unclear what would happen to the firm's files in the future.
