Large brush fire burns near Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Alameda County firefighters say

LIVERMORE, Calif. (KGO) — The 14,000-acre Corral Fire near Tracy, which destroyed one home and injured two firefighters, is now 75 percent contained, according to CAL FIRE officials.

Cécile Juliette of CAL FIRE says crews are making good progress compared to Saturday when the fire broke out.

Juliette says they were able to take advantage of higher humidity and cooler temperatures Sunday morning and expanded the containment lines Sunday evening.

However, she warned of the heatwave which is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday and which will dry everything out even more.

This is a look from SKY7 Sunday at the aftermath of the Corral Fire that burned near Tracy in Alameda and San Joaquin counties.

Evacuation orders in the area of the Corral Fire near Tracy have been reduced to warnings and I-580 is back open.

Two Alameda County firefighters were hospitalized Saturday for treatment of minor to moderate burns but are expected to make a full recovery.

Juliette wants residents to be prepared for evacuation routes and pack their travel bags.

She warned Bay Area residents about wildfires, noting the size and scale of this fire in early June, when most activity is around July, August and September.

“This should highlight how dangerous firefighting is and how dangerous it is for anyone to be near a fire. So we are asking people to really pay attention to evacuation orders and to get out early because we're going to be there if there's a fire,” Juliette told ABC7 News. “All fires start small, so our goal is to respond quickly so we can keep it small, put it out and hope people can get home quickly.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
