Lansing police identify victim of Thursday night stabbing

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Officials with the Lansing Police Department have identified the victim in a stabbing attack Thursday evening in the city's near west district.

Cynthia Marek, 65, died after suffering “serious injuries” in a stabbing in the 2100 block of Bruce Avenue, LPD officials confirmed to 6 News.


When officers arrived on scene, police reported in a news release, “they found a 65-year-old woman seriously injured. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Lansing Fire Department said in a statement that crews were dispatched shortly after 7 p.m. in response to a stabbing incident. They said two people with stab wounds were transported in critical condition to a local hospital. Marek was pronounced dead at the hospital, firefighters reported in their press release.

A 6 News crew on scene saw an ambulance being escorted from the scene by a Lansing police vehicle. Both emergency vehicles had their emergency lights on when they left the scene.

Lansing police report a suspect is in custody.

The incident remains under investigation as police work to determine the timeline of events and details related to the stabbing.

This is the seventh homicide in the city in as many weeks.
