Lake Pueblo State Park drowning victim identified | News

The body of a swimmer who was found Saturday evening in Lake Pueblo State Park has been identified as that of a Colorado Springs man.

Juan Jimenez, 40, drowned after going swimming in the lake, the Pueblo County coroner said Tuesday.

Jimenez's body was found after a three-hour search by volunteer divers from the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office around 11 p.m. Her body was found about 75 feet from shore in water about six feet deep.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife continues to recommend that anyone entering the water wear a life jacket, become familiar with the area you are recreating in and bring someone else.

According to unofficial CPW figures, this is the 19th water-related death in Colorado this year.

The summer season is off to an alarming start, with water-related deaths already half of what they were at the end of last year.

Bridget O'Rourke, a CPW spokeswoman, said there have been 16 water-related deaths in Colorado so far, and there were 32 deaths last year.

There were 32 water recreation-related deaths in 2023, and the highest number of deaths recorded in a single year was 42 in 2022.
