Lake Oswego father sentenced to 2 years in prison for drugging his daughter's friends

LAKE OSWEGO Oregon (KPTV) – A Lake Oswego father was sentenced Monday to 24 months in prison for drugging three girls during a sleepover his daughter hosted in August 2023.

The father apologized for seven minutes in court.

According to court documents, Michael Meyden, 57, turned himself in after being accused of giving a sleeping pill to three 12-year-old girls during his daughter's sleepover at his Lake Oswego home.

Meyden is accused of mixing mango smoothies with benzodiazepines, typically used to treat insomnia and panic attacks.

Court documents say the girls told police they felt groggy, some even passing out.

Documents say Meyden repeatedly went to the basement where the girls were sleeping – watching them sleep and, at one point, holding his finger under a girl's nose and waving his hand in front of her face to see if she was sleeping.

A Lake Oswego father is accused of drugging three girls during a sleepover in August 2023.

One of the girls says she managed to stay awake and texted her mother just before 2 a.m.:

“Mom, please come get me and say I had a family emergency. I don't feel safe. I may not answer, but please come and get me. Please. Please pick up. Please. Please!!””

Documents say she then contacted a family friend who picked her up, took her home and woke her parents.

Around 3 a.m., two of the girls' parents went to the home to pick up the other girls. Documents say Meyden initially resisted letting them in, telling the parents the girls were sleeping.

Meyden eventually let the parents in and the girls were taken home.

All three girls tested positive for benzodiazepines.

Meyden pleaded not guilty on Feb. 28 and was charged with causing another person to ingest a controlled substance.
