La Mesa Teen Receives Top Cadet Medal

The Daughters of the American Revolution Silver Medal for Outstanding Cadet was awarded to La Mesa teenager Jack Chabot.

Chabot was selected by the NSDAR Letitia Coxe Shelby Chapter to receive the award for his involvement with the San Diego Civil Air Patrol Cadet Squadron 144. The medal and certificate were presented by Lori Borkert, chair of the chapter's National Defense Committee, and chapter regent Vikki Grieshaber.

Chabot was highly recommended for this honor by his commanding officer, Captain Rafael Delgado.

Delgado wrote: “Jack’s service and contributions to our squadron have been exceptional. He has demonstrated remarkable courage and patriotism, always willing to support his fellow cadets and participate in community service activities. His positive attitude and unwavering dedication make him a role model within our squadron.”

Chabot joined the squadron at age 12 and has held numerous positions, including flight sergeant, flight commander and cadet commander. Chabot, a recent graduate of Heritage Christian School, is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Since the Civil Air Patrol's inception at the outset of World War II, this vigilant organization of citizen aviators has been committed to serving America. Founded on December 1, 1941, to mobilize the nation's civil aviation resources for the service of national defense, CAP has grown into a premier public service organization that continues to perform emergency service missions when needed, in the air and on the ground.

As a Total Force partner and auxiliary to the U.S. Air Force, the Civil Air Patrol is there to search for and recover the missing, provide comfort in times of disaster, and work to keep the nation safe. Its 60,000 members selflessly dedicate their time, energy, and expertise to the well-being of their communities, while promoting aviation and related fields through aerospace/STEM education and helping to develop future leaders through the CAP Cadet Program.

The Civil Air Patrol's missions for America are many, and today's adults and cadets carry out their duties with the same vigilance as its founding members – preserving the CAP's 75-year legacy of service while maintaining its commitment to nearly 1,500 communities across the country.
