Knox County Sheriff's Office investigates stabbing near Verdigre | News

A person has been arrested in connection with a stabbing last week that left a man hospitalized.

Around 11:20 p.m. on June 6, the Knox County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call regarding a stabbing incident northeast of Verdigre, according to a news release. Sheriff's deputies and Verdigre Fire and Rescue responded to the call.

At the scene, Jon Lucas, 33, of rural Creighton, was found with numerous stab wounds. He was transported by Verdigre Rescue to Avera Creighton Hospital and then flown to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

An investigation revealed that Lucas had been assaulted by at least two people, according to the release. Kaden Spencer, 20, of Creighton, was arrested and booked into the Knox County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault, following an investigation by the Sheriff's Office. Possible charges are pending against two other suspects.

The Bloomfield and Creighton Police Departments assisted the Sheriff's Office during the investigation.
