KINGSTON, N.Y. — A city man has been convicted of weapons and drug charges, including sale and possession of narcotics, the Ulster County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday.

William Mayo, 42, of Esopus, was convicted following a jury trial on 11 counts, including sale and possession of narcotics and criminal possession of a loaded firearm . Guest Judge James Farrell presided over the three-day trial.

The conviction follows a June 9, 2022 investigation in Kingston that resulted in the execution of a search warrant at Mayo's residence in Esopus. The search uncovered handguns and loaded magazines, cash and cocaine, the prosecutor's office said.

The investigation was conducted by the state police's Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team, which investigates dangerous drug dealers as well as illegal possession and use of weapons, according to a Press release.

“Mayo has five prior felony convictions that are likely to be considered by a sentencing judge in determining appropriate sentences for possession of a loaded firearm, a violent felony with a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison, as well as serious drug offenses,” the prosecutor's office said.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 15.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Tara Waters and Cindy Murphy. Mayo is represented by attorney Kevin Richards.
