King County deputies involved in deadly shooting while serving eviction notice in Auburn

Auburn police officers and the King County Sheriff's Office SWAT team had responded by signing a “high-risk” eviction order when the shooting occurred.

AUBURN, Wash. — Deputies with the King County Sheriff's Office were involved in a fatal shooting while serving an eviction notice in Auburn Friday.

The shooting happened near Auburn Way South and Second Street Southeast. Deputies from the Sheriff's Office SWAT team and officers from the Auburn Police Department responded to the scene to execute a high-risk civil eviction order around 11 a.m.

The police made contact a few minutes after arriving on scene.

Officers used “deadly force,” according to the Valley Independent Investigation Team, which is investigating the shooting.

First responders provided medical treatment to the person. However, they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Six deputies involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

Auburn Way South, between Second Street Southeast and East Main Street, was closed around 11:45 a.m. due to the incident, according to the city of Auburn. Southbound lanes reopened around 3 p.m.

The Valley Independent Investigation Team is a coalition of law enforcement agencies from across southern King County. The Des Moines Police Department is the lead investigating agency.
