Kentucky man charged after Bell County shooting

BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WATE) – One man was injured and another man was charged following a reported shooting at a residence in Bell County, Kentucky, Sunday evening.

The Bell County Sheriff's Office said in a social media post shared Monday night that deputies responded to a residence on Blue Ridge Church Road around 10:05 p.m. for a report of a man had been shot. The victim, who had been shot twice, was initially taken by a family member to ARH Hospital in Middlesboro. They were then taken away by AirEvac and were unable to make a statement according to the BCSO.


At the scene, Bell County police officers made contact with a 20-year-old suspect identified as Matthew Sheltonby Page.

Shelton told deputies the victim ran out of the residence with his hand behind his back, and Shelton felt he “was going to be hurt, so he fired his firearm striking the individual,” the statement said. message from BCSO.

Based on the on-scene investigation, officers arrested Shelton and charged him with first-degree assault. He was taken to the Bell County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing.
