KC man sentenced in 2023 Grandview chase and shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Mo., man was convicted for involvement in police chase last year in Grandview.

On Friday, May 31, Kainon K. Singleton, 26, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for unlawful use of a weapon and 3 years in prison for armed criminal action. Charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and resisting arrest were dropped.

On March 10, 2023, Grandview Police said officers spotted a vehicle wanted by Overland Park Police around 3:30 a.m.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but said the driver refused and continued driving.

A Cass County deputy resumed hunting in the same area. Deputies said someone in the car began shooting at the officer near Harry S. Truman Drive and U.S. Highway 71.

The deputy used a department-issued device to stop the car about 2 miles away at East 132 Street and Byars Road.

Grandview police arrested the 25-year-old driver of the vehicle. Officers said the man dropped a gun while trying to flee from officers.

A 22-year-old woman is also in police custody. The officer said she was in the vehicle and also tried to run away from officers.

When officers searched the vehicle, they said they found a number of items stolen from businesses across the subway.
