SALINE COUNTY — A Kansas man remains in prison after a string of crimes in Salina.

Just before 3 p.m. On May 27, a 36-year-old Salina man reported that someone stole his 2000 Ford Mustang from the front of the Cave Divers Liquor store at 1103 West Crawford Street in Salina, according to Salina Police Capt. James Feldman.

The victim said she left the car running while she went to the store to buy groceries.

While the victim was in the store, a subject, later identified as Marcellius Garner, 31, Salina, was in the store. Employees told police that Garner was walking around the store and indicated he had no money and was hoping someone would buy him alcohol, according to Feldman. Employees saw him pick up a bottle of tequila, worth $29, then leave.

Garner then got into the Mustang and drove off. Feldman said later that day, an officer located the Mustang at 409 South Broadway Boulevard, a few blocks north of the liquor store.

Around 7 p.m., someone called from the Embassy Hotel, at 217 South Broadway Boulevard in Salina, and reported a man running naked in front of the local hotel.

Once officers arrived, they located and identified Garner following the carjacking at Cave Divers Liquor. Garner first retreated to his room and allegedly slammed the door to bar entry.

Officers were able to get him to respond and he gave consent to his room where police observed the same clothes Garner wore to the liquor store and the bottle of tequila in the room.

Officers arrested Garner on charges of felony theft, misdemeanor theft, and lewd and lascivious exhibition.
