Garden City Fire Department

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Authorities are investigating a house fire that may have been caused by arson.

A news release from the Garden City Fire Department said at 5:45 a.m. Monday, firefighters were dispatched to the scene of a structure fire in the 1000 block of N. Boots Rd. in Garden City.

Firefighters on scene found the house was engulfed in a massive fire that was visible from all windows. They set up water lines, completed initial fire suppression and conducted a search of the house.

The home was unoccupied, GCFD said. No injuries were reported in the fire, which was brought under control around 6:02 a.m.

The Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office was called in to assist in the investigation. An accelerator detection dog, Karma, alerted several areas of the home to the possible presence of accelerants.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be arson and the investigation is ongoing.

If anyone has information, they are asked to call Fire Marshal Gene Robertson at 620-276-1140 or Finney County Sheriff's Office Investigator Colleen Bascue at 620-272-3700.
