Kansas City police investigate homicide in downtown Kansas City after shots fired near large crowd

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) — Police say a man is dead after shots were fired near a large crowd in downtown Kansas City early Sunday morning.

The Kansas City Police Department responded to reports of a shooting shortly before 3:30 a.m. on June 30. When officers arrived at the scene, located near 12th Street and Grand Boulevard, they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Police provided medical treatment to the man until paramedics arrived, but he was pronounced dead. His death is being investigated as a homicide.

KCPD said there was a large crowd gathered in a parking lot at the time of the shooting and the victim was struck by gunfire. It is unclear what circumstances led to the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
