Kane County Sheriff to Impose Sober Driving Campaign Starting Friday – Shaw Local

The Kane County Sheriff's Office will host a “Drive Sober or Get Arrested” Independence Day campaign from Friday, June 21 through Monday, July 8.

Officers will work to keep impaired drivers off the road and restrain unbelted motorists, according to a news release from the office.

“It’s a simple message: If you’re behind the wheel, stay sober,” Sheriff Ron Hain said in the release. “Do not drink, use marijuana, or use any other impairing substance before or while driving. Our officers will be on duty 24 hours a day, dedicated to enforcing traffic laws and, above all, saving lives.

This campaign is a collaboration between the Kane County Sheriff, Illinois State Police and more than 200 local police departments and sheriffs aimed at strengthening law enforcement statewide during this period, according to the press release.

To ensure a fun and safe holiday season, the Kane County Sheriff's Office urges everyone to follow these tips:

  • Designate a sober driver before you leave.
  • Stop your friends and family members from driving under the influence.
  • If you are impaired, use safe alternatives such as taxis, public transportation, and ride-sharing apps, or contact a sober friend or family member for a ride.
  • Use designated driver programs available in your community.
  • Promptly report suspected drunk drivers to law enforcement by stopping and calling 911.
  • Make sure all passengers fasten their seat belts. It is not only a law, but also a crucial defense against impaired drivers.
