Juveniles start fire inside Fort Lauderdale Walmart after setting off fireworks, police say – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL. (WSVN) – A group of juveniles set off fireworks inside a Walmart store in Fort Lauderdale, causing clothing to catch fire, police said.

Fort Lauderdale police and fire units responded to a fire inside the large retailer located at 2500 W Broward Blvd., around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

“Answer 2500 West Broward Boulevard. A fire alarm at a Walmart,” a dispatcher said via radio transmission.

Detectives said a group of juveniles grabbed fireworks in front of the store, then headed to the clothing section and set one off.

FLFR said store staff saw the children lighting the fireworks, then acted quickly by grabbing a fire extinguisher and putting out the flames.

Video recorded on a cellphone shows some unused fireworks near burning clothing.

Authorities say it may have been a prank gone wrong.

Police gathered information and passed it on to their arson investigators for further investigation.

Officers were unable to view the surveillance video because it was not immediately available, according to store management.

Fortunately, no one got hurt.

As of Wednesday evening, no one had been arrested.
