Juvenile suspect identified after woman's car window smashed, steering column peeled off: University Heights police blotter

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio —

Attempted car theft: Boulevard Raymont

At 4:30 p.m. on June 9, a resident of the 3500 block of Raymont Boulevard reported that the rear window of her 2018 Hyundai Elantra was broken and its steering column had come loose.

Police identified a juvenile suspect from a carjacking report from Cleveland Heights police.

Attempted car theft: Cedar Road

On June 3, at 10:45 a.m., police were called to the 14000 block of Cedar Road for reports of a break-in and attempted theft of a 2006 Kia Rio that occurred during the night before.

Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,177. The police are investigating.

Traffic offense: Meadowbrook Boulevard

On June 4 at 4:20 a.m., a police officer stopped a car after the driver failed to adjust his headlights. The driver, a 42-year-old Venezuelan national, was driving without a license.

The man was cited for both violations and his car was impounded.

Family offence: Cedar Road

At 12:30 a.m. on June 5, officers responded to the 13800 block of Cedar Road on a report of a domestic dispute.

Officers spoke with the report's author, who said her 41-year-old mother hit and spit on her, then fled the apartment before police arrived.

No apparent injuries were observed or suffered and the informant did not wish to file a criminal complaint.

Flight: Chemin des Cèdres

On June 6, at 2:15 p.m., police were called to Target, 14070 Cedar Road, for a report of a shoplifter. As officers responded, loss prevention at the store informed police that the suspect was leaving in a white car.

Police stopped the car and learned that its passenger, an 18-year-old Cleveland man, was the suspect. Police cited the man for theft of merchandise totaling $409.97.

Flight: Chemin des Cèdres

At 7:35 p.m. on June 7, Target's loss prevention department announced it had arrested a 44-year-old Cleveland man for theft of merchandise totaling $67.47.

Police charged the man with theft and possession of criminal tools.
