Justin Timberlake Breaks Silence at Chicago Concert Following DWI Arrest: The Latest

Justin Timberlake returned to the stage Friday night in Chicago, three days after being arrested for drunk driving in Sag Harbor, New York. The superstar is on the road with his “Forget Tomorrow World Tour.” The 43-year-old alluded to the incident, telling the crowd: “It's been a tough week.”

“We've been through ups and downs, left and right… but you're here and I am, and nothing can change this moment right now,” the Trolls the star said in videos posted on X. The crowd erupted in joy.

“I know sometimes I'm hard to love, but you continue to love me and I love you back,” he concluded. “Thank you so much!”

Here's where things stand after Timberlake's arrest in the Hamptons.

The singer's wife of over 10 years is apparently “not happy” with her husband and the “distraction” he has brought to their family. (They share two sons: Silas, 9, and Phineas, 4.)

“She must have filmed yesterday. She doesn't like attention to the family, especially negative attention,” a source told People. However, the actress who films the series The best sister in New York, “will always be at his side.”

Timberlake was arraigned on June 18 and released on his own recognizance. It is unknown if the two have seen each other.

“He’s a great father and husband,” the source adds.

The Daily Mail reports that Biel is “embarrassed” and “extremely upset.”

A representative for Biel did not respond to Yahoo Entertainment's request for comment.

In a statement released Wednesday, attorney Edward Burke Jr. said he “looks forward to vigorously defending” the pop star.

“He will have a lot to say at the appropriate time. He is currently awaiting a full investigation from the DA's office,” Burke told TMZ.

The “Cry Me a River” singer was arraigned on June 18. According to the criminal complaint, he told an arresting officer that he had only drunk “one martini” and was following friends home from the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, Wash. New York State.

According to TMZ, the singer will not go to rehab — which is a typical celebrity move in DWI or driving under the influence cases — and will instead focus on his world tour. (Timberlake's rep did not respond to Yahoo's request for comment.) Page Six also reports that he is “continuing” the tour, as evidenced Friday night.

“People who have spent years with the singer tell us they have never had any problems with him, and he is generally in control when he is in public,” says TMZ.

Timberlake has never been arrested, and his drinking has never really made headlines before – except when he's spoken about it himself. In 2019, the singer issued a public mea culpa in Biel when he was photographed holding hands with a co-star. (“A few weeks ago, I demonstrated a serious error of judgment – but let me be clear – nothing happened between me and my co-star. I drank way too much this that evening and I regret my behavior I should have known.”

The singer did not directly address this scandal for more than a week.

Eric Schiffer told Yahoo that “Justin can't dance to this one.”

“He needs to take ownership and responsibility, and he can do that through an appropriate one-on-one interview,” adds Schiffer, president of Los Angeles-based Reputation Management Consultants.

Perhaps this may come from Gayle King, who publicly defended the singer in CBS Mornings. “Justin Timberlake is a really, really great guy,” she said. “He’s not an irresponsible person, he’s not reckless, he’s not negligent.”

Schiffer believes the DWI “hurts” Timberlake’s “trust and brand likeability.”

“This leads to a loss of respect from fans and the public, and creates great chill among brands for future collaborations,” he says.
