(NewsNation) – Singer Justin Timberlake was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk Monday night in Sag Harbor, New York, NewsNation has confirmed.

After being held overnight, Timberlake was arraigned and released without bail on Tuesday, with the next court date set for July 26.

Timberlake came to Sag Harbor, part of Long Island's Hamptons, after a stop on his “Forget Tomorrow” tour in Miami last week.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that Timberlake was partying with friends at the American Hotel, a well-known celebrity hangout, before his arrest.

Police said in a news release that Timberlake failed to stop at a stop sign and failed to maintain his lane of travel, so they stopped his car.

“Upon investigation, it was determined that Mr. Timberlake was operating his vehicle while intoxicated,” police said. Court documents say he had “bloodshot and glassy eyes” and that officers smelled his alcoholic breath. When he was offered a breathalyzer test, he refused, the document states.

Timberlake, according to the document, told officers he had a martini and was following his friends' house.

As part of his tour, Timberlake has concerts planned in Chicago this weekend, then in New York and at Madison Square Garden.

NewsNation previously reported that Timberlake was having trouble selling tickets for “Forget Tomorrow.”

“A six-year break between your mid-30s and early 40s is a very long time (for an artist),” noted music journalist Touré of TheGrio told NewsNation's Paula Froelich. “Most of (Timberlake's) fans have gotten older and don't care about him anymore. It's like the old saying goes: “You don't retire, the public retires you.” »

The singer has never been charged with drunk driving before, although he sparked controversy in 2016 when he took a selfie in front of a voting booth in Tennessee – a violation of state law . Timberlake later addressed the controversy during an appearance on “The Tonight Show,” saying he didn't know it was illegal and was just trying to inspire people. Tennessee authorities ultimately did not investigate the incident, according to Reuters.
