Just for Teens: Intensive Typography (Spring Break)

During this 4-day workshop, students will be introduced to the exciting and inky world of typography! Students will learn about the art of letterpress printing, including how historic equipment is now used to make modern designs, such as compelling posters, fine art prints and cards. They will explore the differences between cylinder and platen presses, define a variety of typefaces and images, mix ink, study the relationship between form and content in letterpress printing, and plan multi-step designs. Students will be able to experiment with different approaches by expressing themselves with characters, leaving with a small collection of 2 to 3 color prints.

By the end of the workshop, students will have a basic understanding of how to properly use equipment and operate in a functional community print studio. Students will also learn the steps to becoming certified and using the studio independently beyond this course.

Registration closes March 15, 2024 and includes all necessary materials. Students are responsible for providing their own lunch. Additional details and options will be provided upon registration.

Note: This is a skills-building course, in which each day builds on what was learned the day before. Our class capacity is limited to ensure everyone gets enough one-on-one time with the instructor. Make sure you can commit to the full 4-day workshop. If you have any questions, please let us know!
