June 1 drowning of Jacksonville teen does not appear to have been criminal in nature, police say

At approximately 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, Jacksonville Fire and Emergency Services responded to the Holiday City Community Homes on Corbin Street in reference to an unresponsive juvenile.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered that a 15-year-old female had been recovered from a swimming pool where bystanders were administering CPR. Emergency personnel then performed lifesaving measures without success, according to a previous Daily News report, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The JPD said in a news release Friday that based on the preliminary investigation, the incident does not appear to be criminal in nature.

“We are still awaiting autopsy results to confirm the cause of death,” Jacksonville Public Safety Director Michael Yaniero said in the release. “This is a tragic loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s friends and family.”
