JSO identifies man who died at hospital after Northside shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has identified a man who died at the hospital after a shooting on Jacksonville's North Side on May 24.

The man was identified as 41-year-old Byron W. Walker.

Sgt. Steve Rudlaff of the JSO homicide unit said officers were called to Maidstone Cove Drive, just north of Trout River near Lem Turner Road, around 9:45 p.m. Thursday for a report that someone 'one had been shot.

When they arrived, they found Walker with multiple gunshot wounds. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue personnel responded and took him to the hospital, where he died.

Investigators said one person was arrested and was being questioned at JSO headquarters downtown.

Rudlaff said they do not know the circumstances of the shooting or the relationships of those involved, but are continuing to investigate.

Rudlaff said investigators believe this was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the community.
