JOLIET — A 47-year-old Aurora handyman is currently incarcerated in the Will County Jail and faces aggravated criminal charges of sexual abuse, Joliet police said in a news release. José Velazquez-Flores is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in Joliet.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said Velazquez-Flores was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Center and that's where he remains.

According to English, at 8:52 p.m. on May 7, Joliet police learned of an allegation of sexual abuse of a 16-year-old girl that occurred on April 25 at a home in the Caton Ridge subdivision.

Vazquez-Flores, a handyman, was hired by the victim's relative to make repairs to his home. Following an interview with the victim, Joliet police detectives believed Velazquez-Flores had engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with the minor victim.

Vazquez-Flores voluntarily turned himself in to the Joliet Police Station for questioning Tuesday. According to English, Vazquez-Flores admitted to having sex with the minor victim, who he knew to be 16 years old. Detectives took Vazquez-Flores into custody without incident.

The Joliet Police Department would like to thank the Will County Children Advocacy Center for
their assistance in this matter, English noted.
