Johnson man sentenced to 57 months in prison for drug, gun offenses

A Johnson man has been sentenced after being convicted of drug and gun offenses in Lamoille County. A federal judge sentenced George Goins, 66, to 57 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and criminal possession of a firearm. He will also have to serve three years of supervised release after his prison sentence.Goins was arrested on June 8, 2022, following a shooting outside his apartment complex the day before. Prosecutors said Goins shot one of his neighbors in the neck following an argument outside his apartment complex before fleeing. Goins was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his criminal history. He was found and arrested the next day in South Burlington with fentanyl and cocaine in his possession. The victim was treated and released.
